Horror File: Energy "crisis" reaches Utah
Thomas M. Miovas, Jr.
> From Shayne Wissler
>
>On June 21, 2001 Governor Michael O Leavitt kicked off a
>statewide energy conservation initiative with the statement
>--- "for reliable energy--we need to conserve, conserve,
>conserve." His energy reduction campaign is "Power Forward
>Alert" and it calls for all Utahans to work on conserving
>energy to avoid the pitfalls that have recently plagued
>California.
I keep hearing radio commercials about how Texas has built or will be
building 24 or so new power plants. Since we sold electric power to
California -- at an exorbitant mark-up -- I don't think Utah has much to
worry about: just fork over that +45,000% and we will be more than happy to
keep your power on ;)
All joking aside, it's too bad electric generating plants are considered
"public utilities" -- making them private and getting the government out of
the way would solve everyone's problem.
However, as Rush Limbaugh keeps reminding us, government agents (especially
the Democrats) don't want to solve these problems, since it makes for such
good tactical excuses for blaming capitalism in the ongoing effort to
nationalize every aspect of our lives.
