John Stossel Goes to Washington
Thomas M. Miovas, Jr.
John Stossel, the fact-oriented reporter, has a news special
airing Saturday (01/27/2001) at 9pm central as an ABC News
Special called "John Stossel Goes to Washington." I heard an
interview of John Stossel about this special on the Neal Boortz
radio show, and it sounds like it will be a great expose of
government pork leading to the impoverishment of those such
programs are supposed to be helping. I don't know if this will
be in the special, but John Stossel said that when he went to
interview the Secretary of the Interior, said Secretary said,
"I'm going to fire whoever set up this interview!" then walked
out without saying another word!
The interview on the Boortz show was interesting in that Mr.
Stossel knows that he is the only reporter willing to take on
certain topics, and he sounded very dismayed that this is the
way it is. However, he said he knows someone has to do it, and
he's willing and able, so he does them. He also thanks his
rather large audience for their continued support, because he
knows that if it wasn't for them he would no longer have a job
as a reporter.
Mr. Stossel started off in reporting as an adamant left-wing
socialist, but after a while he says he could no longer evade
the facts and made a turnaround. This sort of honesty is rare
these days, so he certainly has my support.
