Prime Tax Cut
Thomas M. Miovas, Jr.
When I got my pay check this payday, I was a bit surprised that the amount
of my pay had changed. I get a salary every two weeks, plus a commission
payable once a month. This check being just the base pay, I asked my boss
why it had changed, as was a bit more than I had expected. After some
thinking, he realized it must be due to the tax cut. Turns out this
enormous tax cut the Democrats are outraged about permits me to keep about
$25 more per month -- a measly $25!
Now, I'm certainly not in the classification of "the rich" as defined by
the Democrats, so I actually expected to see a bigger difference on my pay
check. That's the way it had been advertised -- you know, "the poor" should
get more back.
Since my birthday was fairly recent, and I hadn't really done much to
celebrate, I decided to order a steak dinner when I went to a restaurant
with a friend of mine the same day I received my enormous pay raise. With
tip, the steak dinner cost $12. So, the tax cut permits me to buy two steak
dinners per month -- and we are not talking about high-grade, Texas style,
prime cut steak dinners; not at those prices!
My friend suggested I send a letter to the President thanking him for the
steak dinner; but while I'm happy to keep any amount of my pay check free
from taxes, I have to say that this tax cut is poultry.
