Where Ideas Are Brought Down to Earth!

Writings based on Objectivism, the philosophy of Ayn Rand

Ayn Rand's most popular novels are Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead which present her philosophy, Objectivism, in vivid characterizations. Metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, esthetics, and  politics are the five main branches of philosophy that she identifies. Utilizing her methodology, one can be rational about all aspects of life. These essays present my understanding of Objectivism.

Will Ye page 12

Above the border of the mist, his eyes could see at a great distance, so he was a bit annoyed that it was dark and dreary once he got beneath it and at the opening of the cave. He wondered if he could ever get used to living in the Forest of Malevolence after this night of adventure -- especially with, perhaps, a different type still awaiting him.

But Smilerina was nowhere to be found.

She was no longer sobbing on the large rock, and she wasn’t in the cave.

Coming from above him, almost as if the mist itself was speaking to him, he heard in an anguished voice:

"Will ye mortals never learn!"

It was Smilerina -- and she had gone to where he had left the weredragon!

He had to do something, and quick.

Running back up to the ledge as fast as he could, he turned around and saw Smilerina flying towards him -- with the weredragon right behind her!

Somehow, it had gotten loose and was now on a rampage.

"Look out!" He yelled, taking off his bow and stringing it with an arrow. "He’ll fry you alive!"

Smilerina flew closer to him at a break-neck speed, and punched him on the arm so hard that his aim was thrown off, missing the target completely.

"Now look what you made me do -- he’ll kill us both!"

Settling down beside him, and opening her wings so he didn’t have a straight shot, Smilerina said:

"Will ye mortals never learn!"

Soon the beast settled down in front of them, and Sourjack -- unable to string his bow while stepping aside quite that rapidly -- prepared himself to die a horrible death.

He blinked amazingly when she walked right up to the creature and began rubbing its side.

"Don’t tell me that thing is your pet?" he exclaimed. "Why, they kill people and suck out their innards!"
