Will Ye page 5
"I do apologize to you miss," said Sourjack. "You see, I got this treasure map and came here to get the treasure, but since you were here first, I guess it belongs to you now…so I'll leave you alone and be on my way." Smilerina got very angry at this statement, frowned enormously, and fiercely yelled: "Will ye mortals never learn!" Suddenly, a solidly built, wooden door studded with long spikes came slamming down across the entrance. If Sourjack had been standing any closer, he would have been ripped to shreds. What a very strange reaction, he thought, as he went to sit down upon the rock, wondering what it was all about. Even though they generally weren’t available for discussions, the fairies were well known for their odd behaviors -- at least according to the Ancient Scrolls. Therein were many tales that had never been verified, since the people of the village preferred to keep to themselves. And Sourjack was beginning to realize that tending his mushrooms may have been the best course of action to take. Nonetheless, he was here, at Mount Doom and the entrance to the cave, so he might as well investigate further. There was a treasure to be had, after all. Confronting the imposing door, he seized the large brass ring and knocked with it once. The barrier rose so quickly, that it seemed to just vanish. It was a good thing he had stepped back! Smilerina stood there in the opening, a wry grin on her face. "I was contemplating the lessons of the Scrolls," said Sourjack as politely as he could, "when I realized that you are nearly an immortal; and as such, you -- from time to time -- would be offering us mere mortals obstacles to overcome." She didn’t say anything, which was rather frustrating to Sourjack, because he was rather proud that he had read the Ancient Scrolls.
